The City is currently installing 120 way-finding pillars as part of its street furniture program. Unfortunately the pillars have fallen far short of their promise by prioritizing advertising instead of providing residents a strong way-finding platform. The more accurately termed ‘Ad Pillars’ violate basic tenants of accessibility, traffic and pedestrian safety, and functionality, as well as public consultation standards, all contained in the City’s own Vibrant Streets Guidelines. You can contact members of the Public Works and Infrastructure Committee here before January 4th to have a say on the matter and inform them of your concerns, or speak to them in person on January 4th.
